About The Pharmaceutical Society of Tanzania

Advancing pharmaceutical practice since 1962

The Pharmaceutical Society of Tanzania (PST) is the oldest professional body representing pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists in the United Republic of Tanzania. Founded in 1962, PST has been at the forefront of advocating for the pharmacy profession and promoting quality healthcare services across the nation.

Our History

The Pharmaceutical Society of Tanzania was established in 1962, the same year Tanzania (then Tanganyika) gained its independence. The founding members recognized the critical need for a unified professional body that would represent the interests of pharmacists and champion the development of pharmaceutical services in the newly independent nation.

Over the past six decades, PST has grown from a small group of dedicated professionals into a vibrant organization with over 5,000 registered members spread across 7 zones throughout Tanzania. The Society has played a pivotal role in shaping pharmaceutical policy, advocating for the profession, and ensuring that Tanzanians have access to quality pharmaceutical care.

PST has successfully organized over 54 Annual General Meetings (AGMs), bringing together pharmacists from across the country to discuss challenges, share knowledge, and chart the future direction of the profession.
